How do you apply eyeshadow properly?

I can never to get eyeshadow to look right, even if i follow turtorials off the internet. It all ways ends up a mess and the eyeshadow doesnt come up right and you can barely see it.

Thanks HEAPSHow do you apply eyeshadow properly?
Do you wear PRIMER??? Vasaline works as well, just apply a light layer over your eyelid then wait a minute, and apply eyeshadow. If your eye is red and irritated, switch brands. There might be something in the shadow that is irritating your eye. HOPE I HELPED!!How do you apply eyeshadow properly?
Do you use makeup brushes or the sponge tip applicators?

That could be one problem, but if it's making your eyes red, and swollen, maybe your allergic to the ingredients? Try going to the optometrist..

Or you may need an eyeshadow primer. The 2 that are really good are Too Faced Shadow insurance(TFSI), or Urban Decay Primer Potion(UDPP), they are both $17 each. Laura Mercier Eye basics? I think that's what it's called is also a good one, and it comes in a variety of colors I think. Also the TFSI comes in differents colors not just translucent, so that's good. Other bases you could use that's cheaper are MAC Paint pots, shadesticks, or paints. You could even use concealer. L'Oreal De-Crease is the cheapest primer I;'ve come across.

Here's the basics on eyeshadow application, you need a base color to go on your lid, a darker color to put into the crease for definition, and a lighter than your skintone color for highlighting right under the eyebrow.

Step 1: With a flat shader brush (like a MAC 239) pat, dont rub or swipe(to get the color to show up better), the eyeshadow on the eyelid, and go slightly pass the crease if you want.

Step 2: With a dense fluffy dome brush(like the MAC 217) using circular motions apply the darker color to the outer corner of the eye, and using circular motins work it into the crease, and make sure you BLEND!!

Step 3(optional): Take a non-dense fluffy dome brush(like the MAC 224), blend right above the crease color, but don't put any color onto the brush, it's just for blending harsh lines, and not for eyeshadow application.

Step 4: With the same flat shader brush, or a fluffy shader brush(like the MAC 227), apply the highlight color right under the eyebrow, and slightly blend it down, to soften up that crease color more, if desired.

Step 5: Apply eyeliner, and mascara.

That's all, it may seem like alot at first, and you may not be able to do it perfectly the first try, but with practice you can be able to do it quickly, and make it look beautiful. Remember, makeup enhances your beauty, it doesn't hide it ;]

If you need anymore advice/help, please message me ;]

TIP: Makeup brushes make a DIFFERENCE with the application of cosmetics ;]
One thing for sure is to use an eyeshadow primer. Shadow insurance from Too Face and Urban Decay primer potion are widely used. Its hard to describe how to apply eyeshadow without showing it so here goes:

With a fluffy wide brush you want to apply your main color e/s over your lid. Make sure to tap off any excess from the brush before applying. I like to tap and press the brush to my lid instead of swiping. It helps increase the staying power and color of the e/s.

Every eyeshadow looks great with a darker shade to emphasize it so grab a square tip or tapered brush (like the size of your pinky nail) and pick up the darker shade don't forget to tap. Apply to your crease while leaving your eye slightly open and let the brush fall naturally into the crease while moving back and forth in soft sweeping motions. The only eyeshadow that should every be applied close to the actual eyebrow is a highlight so make sure the dark e/s doesn't go too far past the crease.

Omg lol i'm practically writing a story XD I shouldn't type too much but if u have anymore questions feel free to email

P.s Keep following eye makeup tutorials (Youtube of course), some could be very difficult but just look at the brushes they use and the way their hands move etc. I was totally a newbie at eye makeup but tutorials totally helped me out. Now my friends and family always ask me to do their makeup for special events! :P
First of all, I would advise you to stop using the Maybelline eye shadow, because it sounds to me like you are allergic (yes, it is possible to be allergic to some kinds of makeup) I would start using a more high quality product like Dior cosmetics, they are easy on the skin. now for application. I would go for the shimmer colors, and as a side note, eye shadow is to highlight your eyes, if you can make it do that without making it obvious that you are wearing makeup, that is a good thing. for the basics, use the darker shade on the lower lid, and lighter shaded on the upper part to hi-light the eye and give dimension. Try not to wipe the shadow on, but sort of dab it on with the brush, don't press hard, you will end up with the color stuck inside the brush and not on your eye if you press, just touch. To start, just make a shape, start at the ends of your eye brows, and do not apply shadow outside of the invisible line from the tips of your eye brows to the corner of your eye. Do not be afraid of playing with your makeup, have fun. I hope that I helped, Good Luck!

Try the Sephora ones.. i sent the link.. I bought it for myself.. It's $22 bucks and the colors are vibrant and beautiful and you have lots of choices!!!! I LOVE it!!

Ps: You won't regret!!
yeah you should swap brands to find one that is hypo-allergenic.

Use a primer to keep make-up on.

Get the right brushes.

Just a few tips.
Yes Cheap makeup sometimes isn't always going to come out right. So it dose make a difference in the Quality of makeup your using.
Try using certain styles of brushes for the look you want to achieve, and not the sponge tipped things... ^_^
use some of Mac
use mineral loose eye shadows. they go on way easier.

and it all depends on the shape size colour of your eyes.
